PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lateral electric field mode liquid crystal display device that achieves a thin and lightweight device and has excellent durability against changes in temperature and humidity while having a wide viewing angle.SOLUTION: The lateral electric field mode liquid crystal display device has a cover glass 2, a first polarizing plate 3, a lateral electric field mode liquid crystal cell 4, a second polarizing plate 5, and a backlight 6, in which the first polarizing plate 3 has a polarizing plate protective film 3a, a first polarizer 3b, and a film 3c, and the second polarizing plate has a polarizing plate protective film 5a, a second polarizer 5b and a film 5c. The cover glass 2 has a thickness of 0.1 to 0.3 mm; the first polarizer 3b and the second polarizer 5b have a film thickness of 1 to 15 μm; the polarizing plate protective film 3a and the polarizing plate protective film 5a have a shrinkage rate of 0.01 to 0.50%; and at least one of the films 3c, 5c is a retardation film and the other is an isotropic film.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
