Indane derivatives, their preparation and their use as odoriferous substances

The present invention relates to novel indane derivatives of the general formula I <IMAGE> in which R<1> represents H; primary or secondary C1- to C6-alkyl; allyl or benzyl and R<2> represents cyano or -COOR<3>, where R<3> represents H; C1- to C10-alkyl; C3- to C6-cycloalkyl which is optionally substituted by at least one C1- to C4-alkyl group; C3- to C10-alkenyl; acyclic C10-terpenyl; C7- to C10-arylalkyl which is optionally substituted by -OCH3; cinnamyl; terpinyl; thymyl; bornyl or isobornyl, and X and Y form a further chemical bond if Z represents H, or Y and Z form a further chemical bond if X represents H, in which case R<2> is in the (E) or (Z) position relative to the aromatic moiety of the indane. This invention furthermore relates to processes for the preparation of these novel indane derivatives and to their use as odoriferous substances in a wide range of cosmetic preparations and in detergents and cleaners or as an odour improver in glues, paints, textiles, paper, plastics or similar industrial products.
