PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a high speed and high density recording by providing a specified relation with respect to a distance between connection parts of upper/lower magnetic poles and upper/lower magnetic films opposite to each other with a data transfer rate of a thin film magnetic head. SOLUTION: In a composite type thin film magnetic head laminated with a magnetic gap film 7 for forming a magnetic gap, organic insulation layers 8, 9, a conductor coil 10 and the upper part magnetic film 11 on an upper shield 4 sharing with the lower part magnetic film, when a required data transfer rate is defined as X (Mbit/sec), the length of the yoke part of the upper part magnetic film, that is, the distance L(μm) between the connection parts of the upper/lower magnetic poles and upper/lower magnetic films opposite to each other is set to L<8400/X. In such a manner, by shortening the distance L, an effect of an eddy current loss in the yoke part is reduced according to that, and a delay of a high frequency component of a magnetic field in the upper/ lower magnetic poles opposite to each other through the magnetic gap 7 on the tips of the upper/lower magnetic films is reduced.
