<p>The present invention relates to a system and method for enabling access of a computing device, such as a personal computer, lap top, or palm top to a computer network such as the Internet. The system enables users of computers, particularly users that are travelling, to access a network such as the Internet from any location without it being necessary for them to remotely dial their usual Internet service provider, and without it being necessary for them to set up a network at the location where they are attempting to access the Internet. A serial connection is provided to a serial port of the computer and the system emulates a modem connection with the computer, providing direct local access to the Internet. Any settings on the computing device for a remote ISP are disregarded.</p> |
