PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fine pigment which can be used directly or with grinding of very small energy use by adding a specific amount of a compound of a specific structure to phthalic acid or a phthalic acid derivative. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I is added to a reaction system of phthalic acid or a phthalic acid derivative, copper or a copper compound and urea. The mixing ratio is 0.5-15 wt.% against phthalic acid or a phthalic acid derivative. The reaction temperature is preferably 160-200 deg.C. The content ratio of urea/phthalic acid or a phthalic acid derivative is preferably 2-4. The content ratio of copper chloride/phthalic acid or a phthalic acid derivative is preferably 0.2-0.3. In formula I, at least one of R1 to R4 is a substituent group of formula II and each of the rest is hydrogen; A and B are each a carboxylic acid group or the like; R5 and R6 are each hydrogen or an alkyl group which may have substitutional groups. This compound is prepared by, for example, reacting trimellitic acid chloride and a desired amine compound.
