INK CONSUMPTION DETECTING METHOD, AND INK JET RECORDING APPARATUS

A method for detecting the consumption of ink by using a piezoelectric device which is mounted on an ink cartridge mounted on an ink jet recording apparatus having a recording head for injecting ink droplets, to detect the consumption of the ink in the ink cartridge. When the recording head is not in the recording state, the consumption of the ink is detected by using the piezoelectric device. The ink residual amount can be reliably detected without any complicated sealing structure.
