This invention provides a system and method to reduce rectangular (Fig. 2) graph images. According to the invention, the main graph (Graph Region) and axis portions (X-Axis Region, Y-Axis Region) of a rectangular graph image are reduced separately (348, 356) such that readability and clarity of the entire graph image is maintained. The axes of the graph are reduced according to a position of the text values included on the axes of the images. The system may be accessed over a network by display devices when reducing for the display images that include rectangular graphs.
