PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate transfer type thermal transfer printer capable of restraining a traveling line of a film from deviating from a normal traveling line. SOLUTION: In this intermediate transfer type thermal transfer printer 1, by the time the next image is primarily transferred onto the film F after an image on a film F is secondarily transferred to a surface of a card S, abutting rollers 31 and 32 move to the side of a thermal head 21 so as to make a film F unwound from a platen roller 20. When the film F is unwound from the platen roller 20, it is wound around an upstream-side bobbin 15 in predetermined amounts, and brought into close contact with the abutting rollers 31 and 32. This can restrain the traveling line of the film F from deviating from the normal traveling line through the primary transfer of the image onto the film F and the secondary transfer of the image onto the surface of the card S.
