The object of the present invention is to provide an antibacterial composition which has an improved antibacterial effect and a wider antibacterial spectrum than conventional antibacterial agents and which is highly safe. This object is achieved with an antibacterial composition comprising 9-(3',7'-dimethyl-2',6'-octadienyl)-4-hydroxy-7H-furo[3,2-gamma][1]benzopyran-7-one and 8-(3',7'-dimethyl-2,6'-octadienyl)-5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2H-1-benzopyran-2-one.
