<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of an S/N ratio caused by amplification of noise components, and to suppress occurrence of flickers without generating periodic waves by noise components such as flickers, when correcting line flickers inherent in an imaging element of an XY address system such as CMOS. <P>SOLUTION: An apparatus of the invention includes an imaging element of the XY address system having a photoelectric conversion function for imaging an object, and a flicker determining means for determining whether flickers occur in an image signal obtained based on an output signal of the imaging element.
