PURPOSE:To improve the sharpness of an image by using specified flat platy silver halide particles in an emulsion layer and incorporating acid treated gelatin having low mol.wt. and lime treated gelatin into a binder in a hydrophilic colloidal layer formed as a nonphotosensitive surface protective layer on the outside of the emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION:Flat platy silver halide particles whose diameter is >=5 times the thickness are used in the emulsion layer, and acid treated gelatin having low mol.wt. obtd. by hydrolyzing acid treated gelatin and lime treated gelatin are incorporated into the binder in the hydrophilic colloidal layer formed as the nonphotosensitive protective surface layer on the outside of the emulsion layer. The diameter of the silver halide particles is the diameter of a circle whose area is equal to the projected area of each of the particles. The diameter of the flat platy silver halide particles is 0.5-5.5mum, preferably 0.5-2.0mum. The pref. halogen compsn. of the silver halide particles is silver bromide or silver iodobromide, especially silver iodobromide contg. 0-10mol% silver iodide. When the resulting sensitive material is used, an image having high sharpness is obtd. with high utilization efficiency of silver. |
