A device for laying above a permanent floor of a building cables (28) which are individually electrically connected to electrical equipment includes support members (14) each having flat upper and lower surfaces and being arranged on the permanent floor to define channels (12) for laying the cables (28) therein. Cover members (40) each generally corresponding in shape to the channels (12) are supported by the support members (14) to close top openings of the channels (12). Upper surfaces of the cover members (40) are substantially flush with those of the support members (14,26). Cable connectors (32,38) for connecting a cable (36) extend from electrical equipment to one of cables (28) which are laid in the channels (12). The cable connectors (32,38) are fixed in place on the bottom of one of the channels (12) in such a manner as to allow the cable (36) extending from the electrical equipment to be connected and disconnected in a lengthwise direction of the channel (12) as needed. A retainer (58) keeps the connectors (32,38) together. <IMAGE>
