PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy absorbing member which improves the average load relatively without reducing the initial load, and thereby, has a large energy absorbing amount per unit weight. SOLUTION: This energy absorbing member consists of an extruded section of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, and a torsion is formed in the longitudinal direction. The angleθof the torsion is about 2 to 60 deg. per the length 250mm, and the torsion is formed along the whole length of the member, or along the scope of 1/5 or more of the length L1. The torsion can be formed in the extruding process time, or by a bending process forcibly.
