<p>The apparatus comprises a skim box 30 for holding a quantity of hot aluminium dross 32 and a press head 20 for squeezing aluminium from the dross 32 held in the skim box 30 into a mould box 40 below. To increase the yield of aluminium from each load of dross 32, the skim box 30 is vibrated by vibration means 302-324. The vibration is preferably performed by subjecting the skim box 30 to sharp vertical movements to assist in the downward movement of aluminium towards a drainage hole 31 situated in the bottom of the skim box 30. In the figure, vibration is created by reciprocating hydraulic cylinders 322 and 324, however the vibration could be created by other means such as pneumatic cylinders, an electric eccentric counterweighted motor or rotary cam and follower or by using ultrasound.</p> |
