PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable electron orbit in image formation by arranging a spacer covered with a conductive film between a face plate and a rear plate, and imparting the conductivity for the spacer to the surface of the spacer by means of ion exchange. SOLUTION: The conductive film 105 of a spacer 104 is connected to a face plate 111 and a rear plate 101 by connecting members 106, 107 to mechanically support the face plate 111 and the rear plate 101. Conductivity is imparted to the connecting members 106, 107 together with adhesive strength by removing the filler of glass flit and adding a silica glass ball with having an average grain size of 20μm which is plated with Au as filler. As the ion exchange treatment for imparting conductivity to the spacer 104, a proper treatment is performed in order to provide a desired resistance. According to this, the change in resistance on the surface of the spacer 104 is minimized, and stable conductivity can be provided.
