PROCESS FOR PRODUCING CYCLIC FORMAL

A process for producing a cyclic formal which comprises feeding an alkylene glycol and a formaldehyde derivative as starting materials to a reaction vessel and reacting these in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the ratio of the molar amount of the alkylene glycol to the molar amount of the formaldehyde derivative in terms of formaldehyde amount is regulated to from 0.02 to 0.95 at the time of the feeding of the starting materials and regulated to from 1.05 to 50 during the reaction thereof. The production process is effective in reducing the amount of by-product impurities during the reaction. Hence, a step of further purifying the cyclic formal is unnecessary or can be facilitated.
