PURPOSE: An automatic test apparatus using a digital test tool is provided to detect automatically failure of a diagnostic module provided in a slot of a main control board by using digital test tool. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus includes a main control board(210) which outputs a test connection signal to a diagnostic module(510) in response to a diagnostic signal from a computer(100). The computer(100) has a display and a test program which allows the diagnostic module(510) to be tested for a functional failure. If the diagnostic module(510) is inserted into a slot, a tool control board(300) generates an insertion signal which is fed back to the main control board(210), and stores an information about the module. The tool control board also generates a diagnostic bit for the module(510) and returns a failure diagnostic bit to the main control board(210). The apparatus further includes a clock/tone generator(220) for supplying the diagnostic module(510) with synchronization clocks and various signals required for the diagnostic module(510).
