PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preservation liquid for a fluid separation apparatus which is excellent in the property-retaining capability for a permselective membrane made of a polymer membrane material such as a cellulose ester and has anti-bacterial property, a membrane element, and a preservation method of the element. SOLUTION: In the case of preserving a fluid separation apparatus comprising a permselective membrane made of a polymer membrane material such as a cellulose ester, a preservation liquid to be employed is an aqueous solution containing a sulfite in a concentration from 100 to 5,000 mg/L and a benzoic acid salt in a concentration from 300 to 15,000 mg/L in the fluid separation apparatus and adjusted to be at pH from 3.5 to 6.0.
