An anode active material, comprising: first primary particles of a compound represented by Chemical Formula 1; and secondary particles of a compound represented by Chemical Formula 1, wherein a weight ratio of the first primary particles to the secondary particles ranges from 5:95 to 50:50, wherein the secondary particles are agglomerates of two or more second primary particles of a compound represented by Chemical Formula 1: LixMyOz  [Chemical Formula 1] where M is any one independently selected from the group consisting of titanium (Ti), tin (Sn), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), antimony (Sb), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), indium (In), aluminum (Al), and zirconium (Zr) or a mixture of two or more thereof; and x, y, and z are determined according to an oxidation number of M, wherein an average particle diameter (D50) of the first primary particles is in a range of 10 nm to 3 μm, wherein an average particle diameter (D50) of the secondary particles is in a range of 5 μm to 30 μm, and wherein an internal porosity of the secondary particles is in a range of 3% to 15%.
