Provided is a paper sheet handling device (1), comprising a pick-up roller (110), a stage (120), a pressure sensor (130), and a measuring unit. The pressure sensor (130) senses pressure being applied to the pick-up roller (110). The measuring unit measures the degree of movement of the stage (120). For each dispensing process in which the pick-up roller (110) dispenses paper sheets until the pressure which the pressure sensor (130) senses is less than a prescribed set value, the stage (120) presses the paper sheets upon the pick-up roller (110) until the pressure which is sensed by the pressure sensor (130) reaches another set value. If a dispensing computation value, which is computed on the basis of the degree of movement of the stage (120) and the number of paper sheets being dispensed by the dispensing process, is less than a prescribed dispensing computation value threshold, the pick-up roller (110) operates with the dispensing speed at a first speed, and if the dispensing computation value is greater than or equal to the prescribed dispensing computation value threshold, the pick-up roller (110) operates with the dispensing speed at a second speed which is slower than the first speed. |
