摘要 A voltage source converter based high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission system includes a voltage source converter (VSC)-based power converter channel. The VSC-based power converter channel includes an AC-DC converter and a DC-AC inverter electrically coupled to the AC-DC converter. The AC-DC converter and a DC-AC inverter include at least one gas tube switching device coupled in electrical anti-parallel with a respective gas tube diode. The VSC-based power converter channel includes a commutating circuit communicatively coupled to one or more of the at least one gas tube switching devices. The commutating circuit is configured to “switch on” a respective one of the one or more gas tube switching devices during a first portion of an operational cycle and “switch off” the respective one of the one or more gas tube switching devices during a second portion of the operational cycle.

A voltage source converter-based high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission system comprising: an alternating current (AC) electrical source; and a voltage source converter (VSC)-based power converter channel comprising: an AC-DC converter comprising a first three-phase bridge switching circuit electrically coupled to said AC electrical source, said first three-phase bridge switching circuit comprising a plurality of first legs electrically coupled in series/parallel with respect to each other, each first leg of said plurality of first legs comprising at least one first gas tube switching device coupled in electrical anti-parallel with a respective gas tube diode;a DC-AC inverter comprising a second three-phase bridge switching circuit electrically coupled to said AC-DC converter, said second three-phase bridge switching circuit comprising a plurality of second legs electrically coupled in series parallel with respect to each other, each second leg of said plurality of second legs comprising at least one gas tube switching device coupled in electrical anti-parallel with a respective gas tube diode; anda commutating circuit communicatively coupled to one or more gas tube switching devices of at least one of said first three-phase bridge switching circuit and said second three-phase bridge switching circuit, said commutating circuit configured to “switch on” a respective one of said one or more gas tube switching devices during a first portion of an operational cycle of at least one of said first and second three-phase bridge switching circuits and “switch off” said respective one of said one or more gas tube switching devices during a second portion of the operational cycle of said at least one of said first and second three-phase bridge switching circuits.
