PURPOSE:To improve the suitability to reduction by forming a nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layer contg. a hardening agent having an acidic group and a basic mordant or a silver halide emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION:A sensitive material for a photomechanical process having a nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layer contg. a hardening agent having an acidic group and a basic mordant or a silver halide emulsion layer is exposed and developed and the resulting silver image is reduced. The hardening agent having an acidic group may be a compd. having an acidic group represented by formula I (where M is H, an alkali metal atom, ammonium or substd. ammonium) and the basic mordant may be a (co)polymer contg. a quart. imidazolium salt. The sensitive material has superior suitability to reduction.
