PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a phase change recording medium of a Sb3 Te-based recording material with initialization-less process and to obtain an initialization- less medium which is compatible with a DVD-ROM and which has the recording density of >=4.7 GB/120 mm diameter disk. SOLUTION: The optical recording medium has a recording layer containing Sb and Te but substantially no other elements or containing at least one kind of element selected from groups I to VII, and other layers. By irradiating the optical recording medium with energetic beams for recording, other elements are moved from the other layers to the recording layer and are present in the recording layer in an amount larger than the amount of the elements in the recording layer when the process of forming the recording layer is completed. |
