Resin transfer molding of fiber reinforced plastic product by injecting from mold cavity edge to create flow in same plane as injection

A fiber reinforcement is placed in a mold (4) which is then closed and vacuum applied. Matrix material is then injected into the mold cavity (10) from at least one outer edge (8b) so that the flow front (38) spreads out from the injection point in the same plane as injection. Independent claims are made for: (a) a molding tool with one or more injection nozzles (14) at the periphery of the tool and on the parting plane. A network of open channels (22-36) branches away from the nozzle forming a matrix distributor in the flow direction; (b) a product made by the process with distribution ribs of matrix material extending from the outer edge (8b).
