A sample extraction device (10) for removing hot gaseous products from a flue duct, or a compartment, has a sampling tube (30) extending into a flue duct (12), or compartment, through a port (16) in a wall (14). The sampling tube connects with a housing (31) containing a filter element (34), and the housing is surrounded by an electric heating mantle (40) at least in the region of the duct wall and over the length of the filter element (34). The mantle temperature is controlled from a temperature sensor element / thermostat (52). The gas sample flow is discharge to analytical equipment, etc via outlets (72, 74). The filter element preferably is ceramic or silica wool. The device may be either permanently or removably installed in the duct.
