Flow-parallel divider plates at the entry of each of the several exchanger pipes produce a characteristic downstream velocity profile. The part flows meet downstream of the plates in parallel or at an angle and at the same or dissimilar speeds, the flow being induced actively or passively if so desired, and the secondary longitudinal turbulence thus produced promotes powerful fluid exchange between pipe wall and center for maximized heat exchange. Flow is thus three-dimensional, giving different types of turbulence as between similar and dissimilar part flow confluence speeds. The fluctuating speeds of flow give rise to corner eddies which move at speed to the pipe center and their consequent delibrium.
