Authentication system

The method checks the authorisation of a user in an access control system. User code information encoded according to a secret code is exchanged bidirectionally between an access side control device (A) with a permanent power supply, and a user side lock (B). To determine the required authorisation for releasing the access device, a locally generated number sequence is compared with information which is transmitted to the other side according to an encoding of the number sequence and is then inversely decoded and transmitted back. The uncoded number sequence generated in the control device (A) and transmitted from there to the lock (B) is compared with the encoded information which is decoded in the lock (B). If there is a mismatch, the checking process is aborted.
