PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To report a warning to a user beforehand on the occasion of transfer of recorded data from a recording/reproducing apparatus to a potable reproducing apparatus, if it is determined that the transfer will not be completed within a setting time from a transfer start time to a transfer finish time. SOLUTION: A recording/reproducing apparatus 1 and a potable reproducing apparatus 4 are connected by a communication means 8, and a transfer start time and a transfer finish time are established. A time duration for transferring is computed according to the amount of data to be transferred and the transfer rate, for accumulated recorded data at a storage means 2 which has been determined beforehand whether the data should be transferred to the potable reproducing apparatus 4 at the time of recording. When it can be determined that the transfer will not be completed by the transfer finish time, a warning is issued to a user. When it can be determined that the transfer will be completed, transfer of the recorded data is started to the portable reproducing apparatus 4 at the transfer start time, and the data are accumulated in the storage means 6.
