A middle- or large-size battery module is provided to improve the strength of cells while minimizing an increase in the weight and volume, to allow easy detection of the operation of cells, to improve the safety, and to realize a desired output and capacity. A middle- or large-size battery module comprises: (a) a plurality of cells connected in series or stacked cells having unit modules standing up in the lateral direction; (b) an upper casing(400) surrounding one lateral end and a part of the top and bottom of the stacked cells and having an external input/output terminals(420) on the front side thereof; (c) a lower casing(500) surrounding the other lateral end and another part of the top and bottom of the stacked cells while being coupled to the upper casing, and having a bus bar(520) on the front side(510) thereof to allow the electrode terminals of the cells to be connected to the external input/output terminals; (d) a sensing member comprising sensing portions inserted in each space on the front and rear sides of the lower casing and conduction portions for connecting the sensing portions with each other; (e) a front cover(600) made of an insulation material, mounted to the front side of the lower casing and protecting the connection between the electrode terminals and bus bar; and (f) a battery management system mounted to the rear side of the lower casing and connected to the sensing portions for monitoring and controlling the operation of the battery module. |
