A control system for a construction machine may comprise: a main control valve having electro proportional pressure reducing valves of a first group for outputting a secondary pressure proportional to an external pressure command signal to a first spool installed in a fluid channel among a hydraulic pump and actuators to control an operation of an actuator of the first group among the actuators, and electro proportional pressure reducing valves of a second group for outputting a secondary pressure proportional to an external pressure command signal to a second spool for controlling an operation of an actuator of the second group among the actuators; first pressure sensors for detecting the secondary pressure output from the electro proportional pressure reducing valves of the first group, and second pressure sensors for detecting the secondary pressure output from the electro proportional pressure reducing valves of the second group; and a control unit for supplying the pressure command signals to the electro proportional pressure reducing valves according to an operation signal of the construction machine, respectively, and comparing the secondary pressure detected by the first and second pressure sensors with the pressure command signals to determine whether a failure in the electro proportional pressure reducing valves has occurred.
