Cable (28), formed by current-carrying conductor with its insulated enclosure, is displaced in feed direction (14). In the plane of the inductive measuring position of the conductor is determined by means of inductive measuring device. In the first plane of optical measurement, lying in feed direction (14) of cable (28) prior to the plane of the inductive measurement, its position is determined by first optical measuring device (16). In the second plane optical measurement, lying in the feed direction (14) of cable (28) for the plane of the inductive measurement, its position is determined by the second optical measuring device (18). Said cable positions (28) are matched so that cable position (28) is obtained in the plane of the inductive measuring and centricity of current-carrying conductor in the insulated enclosure from said obtained position of cable (28) is determined in the plane of the inductive measuring and from current-carrying conductor position, defined in the plane of the inductive measuring.
