An image forming apparatus includes an operator, a receiver, and a controller. The operator accepts print instruction is input. The receiver receives a print instruction from an external terminal. The controller switches one of a standard mode and a quiet mode in which operating noise is lower than that in the standard mode. The controller also executes a print operation based on the print instruction from the operator in the standard mode.

1. An image forming apparatus comprising:
a receiver to receive a print instruction from an external terminal; and a controller to switch one of a standard mode and a quiet mode, operating noise being relatively lower in the quite mode than that in the standard mode, and to execute a print operation in the standard mode based on a print instruction from an operator, wherein when the print instruction from the operator is provided while a print operation is being executed in the quiet mode, the controller is configured to switch an operating mode of the image forming apparatus to the standard mode to execute a print operation based on the print instruction from the operator after a print operation being executed when the print instruction from the external terminal, provided via the receiver, is finished or stopped.
