PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition used for protecting a skin from ultraviolet rays by including a specific light screening agent having a wide absorption band width and a stability to light as an aqueous phase and an A ultraviolet rays screening agent having a stability to light as an oil phase. CONSTITUTION: This light screening cosmetic composition having a stability to light and useful for protecting a skin from ultraviolet rays having 280-380nm wave length range, contains (A) a partially or completely neutralized benzene-1,4-[di(3-methylidene-10-camphorsulfonic)] acid as an aqueous phase, and (B) an A ultraviolet rays screening agent selected from B1; N-(2- ethylhexyl)-3-[(3'-methoxy-4'-n-butoxy)benzylidene]-10-camphorsulfonam ide, B2; 4-(1,1-dimethyethyl)-4'-methoxybenzoylmethane and B3; 4- ispropyldibenzoylmethane as an oil phase, and in which B1, B2 and B3 are photochemically stabilized by an oil soluble light screening agent having <=330nmλmax (e.g. benzylidenecamphor).
