PURPOSE: To obtain slakable stock with a coating film of a reactional product of a metal used for producing refractories contg. magnesia or calcia as a constituent component. CONSTITUTION: Magnesia or calcia as slakable stock is coated with a metal (Al, Cr, Ti, Zr, Fe, Y, W, Ni, or Cu) or a metalloid (B, Si or C) and the coated stock is heated at 500-800 deg.C in the air or in an oxidizing atmosphere or an atmosphere of carbon, CO, nitrogen or silicon to form a dense thin coating film of a reactional product of the metal or metalloid (Al2 O3 , AlN, Cr2 O3 , Cr4 C3 , TiO2 , ZrO2 , SiO2 , SiC, Si3 N4 , FeO, Fe2 O3 , B4 C, B2 O3 , Y2 O, WC, Ni2 C, CuO or a compound of them) on the slakable stock. |
