RADIATION SENSITIVE EMULSION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emulsion of flat silver halide grains enhanced in contrast and sensitivity and sensitivity to graininess ratio by forming epitaxial silver halide protuberances attached to the flat silver halide grains. SOLUTION: The surface chemically sensitized parts comprise the silver halide protuberances having a face-centered cubic rock slat lattice structure epitaxially attached to the limited surface parts of the flat silver halide grains nearest to the edge parts of the grains, and occupy <10% of 111} principal faces and <5% of the total silver contained in the flat silver halide grains and the protuberances and contain silver chloride in a concentration by at least 10mol% higher than that of the flat grains and silver iodide in an amount of at least 1mol% of the silver halide in the protuberances. The flat silver halide grains having an average corresponding circle of at least 3.5μm are used of the radiation sensitive emulsion usable for black-and-white emulsions and color photographic emulsions high in contrast.
