The position estimation method involves using the signals received by the mobile receiver from several different base station transmitters. The signals are subjected to a non-linear operation for generating at least one tone for each of the received base station signals. The mobile receiver position is estimated by evaluation of the tone signals, e.g. by evaluating the phases of the generated tones. Independent claims are included for a mobile receiver position estimation system.
