The nuclear reactor fuel element has a thickened cladding tube lower end forming at least the lower portion of a fuel pellet column support. The nuclear reactor fuel element has a column of fuel pellets (7) seated on a support at the bottom of a cladding tube (1), the upper end of the support having a seating shoulder for the column and the tube having a thickened lower end which forms at least the lower portion of the support.
