PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for extracting the irregularities information of an object and emphasizing the irregular impression of an image arbitrarily. SOLUTION: An irregularities information emphasizing apparatus comprises a digital image pickup unit 120 for an object 300, a light source 110 irradiating light from the axial direction connecting the unit 120 and the object 300 and from a different direction, means 101 for storing an image picked up by the unit 120, means 102 for extracting the irregularities information of the object based on the ratio of gray level between respective pixels in the images being picked up by the unit 120 when the object is irradiated with light from the axial direction and the different direction and stored in the image storing means 101, and means 103 for obtaining an image where the irregularities are emphasized by superposing the extracted irregularities information onto a normal illumination image obtained by irradiating the object from the axial direction.
