PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stretching device for a shadow mask at a low cost that is capable of securely clamping a shadow mask flat plate for a long period of time without producing a slide with a tension being exerted, and that allows a simple configuration and an easy assembling. SOLUTION: The stretching device for a shadow mask includes a pair of chucks 3A, 3B one on the other provided in such a manner that clamping surfaces 31A, 31B for clamping a shadow window flat plate 1 are opposed to each other, and stretches the shadow window flat plate 1, in attaching the shadow window flat plate 1 on a frame in nearly square shape. An elastic tube 5 for clamping shadow window flat plate 1 with causing the shadow window flat plate 1 to be swelled from the clamping surfaces 31A, 31B by injecting air on either one of clamping surfaces side of the chucks 3A, 3B to apply pressure is attached with one portion being exposed to the outside.
