PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a monosaccharide from biomass, whose process is simplified.

SOLUTION: This method for producing the monosaccharide from the biomass is characterized by comprising the first step 3 of preliminarily treating the biomass of raw material in 65 to 85 mass % sulfuric acid at a temperature of 30 to 70°C and the second step 4 of saccharifying the first step treatment product preliminarily treated in the first step 3 in 20 to 60 mass % sulfuric acid at a temperature of 40 to 100°C.
