The variator has a drive disk (28) and an output disk between which a toroidal space (32) is provided. A roller (34) is positioned such that torque is transferred between the disks. The roller is tilted about an axis (51) at an angle greater than zero, and a roller carrier (50) is placed around the tilted axis. A positioning device (56) is movably pivoted at a central axis (54) of the roller to operate a linear actuator (62).
