Immediately before the time t2, a large quantity of negative wall charges are stored on the sustention electrodes (SU1-SUn) and positive wall charges are stored on the data electrodes (D1-Dm). Consequently, when the positive pulsating voltage Vd is applied to data electrodes (D1-Dm), strong discharge takes place between the sustention electrodes (SU1-SUn) and the data electrodes (D1-Dm).
