The method involves evaluating a longitudinal acceleration (aL) and a transverse acceleration (aQ) in a driving dynamics area (GB) of a vehicle by an evaluation unit (3). A static friction between a vehicle tire and a roadway surface is determined based on the evaluated accelerations. A maximum force (Fmax) exerted on a reversible wind-up tightener (4) is adjusted for pre-tightening a seat belt (5) based on the determined static friction, and/or a time period (t) is adjusted till reaching the maximum force. |
