PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retractable writing utensil designed so that a clip having strong griping force and high durability can be easily mounted on the outer peripheral surface of a side wall of a shaft cylinder provided with a slide hole.SOLUTION: A clip 5 is provided with a gripping piece part 51 and a ring-like mounting part 52. The gripping piece part 51 and the mounting part 52 are integrally formed of metallic material. The mounting part 52 is provided with a notch 52a open frontward in a shaft direction and penetrating in the diameter direction. The mounting part 52 is mounted on the outer peripheral surface of the side wall of the shaft cylinder 2. The notch 52a of the mounting part 52 and a slide hole 22 of the shaft cylinder 2 are communicated with each other in the diameter direction.
