PURPOSE:To improve operability and miniaturize a device by shifting the optical axis of an image forming lens in parallel to the user side from the axis, which passes the center of the image pickup face of an image pickup device and is perpendicular to the image pickup face, to prevent the image pickup device and the image forming lens from hiding the surface of an original. CONSTITUTION:An image forming lens 2 and an image pickup device 1 are so set that an optical axis l2 of the image forming lens 2 is shifted in parallel to the user side from an axis l1, which passes the center of the image pickup face of the image pickup device 1 and is perpendicular to the image pickup face, by DELTAx. Consequently, the image of a point A of the original is formed at a point A' of the image pickup device 1, and images of points B and C of the original are formed at points B' and C' of the device 1 respectively. Thus, the image pickup device 1 can be drawn back from the position of the point C on the original to prevent the image pickup device 1 and the image forming lens 2 from hiding the surface of the original, and a compact image input device which is not obstructive even at the time of operation is obtained.
