PURPOSE:To wind a small-width belt-shaped object in optional density, by arranging a supplier just before a forming drum to supply the small-width belt-shaped object to the drum and controlling a direction of the supplier and its speed being moved in the axial line direction of the drum in accordance with its rotary speed. CONSTITUTION:A band forming machine 1 has a forming drum rotatable being able to spread and contract its diameter. Rotation of a driving motor 3 is transmitted to the forming drum 2 through pulleys 5, 7 and a belt 8. A pulse generator 9, serving for a detecting means and detecting the rotation of the motor 3 through pulleys 11, 12 and a belt 13, detects rotation of the forming drum 2. Small-width belt shaped objects T, wound out from a winding unit 21, form a festoon by rollers 92, 93, being fed to a supplier 16 provided just before the forming drum 2. A control means 94 feeds a control pulse to the supplier 16 on the basis of a pulse from the pulse generator 9 and the information relating to a product during its forming and the supplier 16 is controlled for its moving direction and speed in the axial direction. In this way, the small width belt- shaped object is wound in optional density.
