At present, the fibres for composite materials are treated by e.g. impregnation by solutions of various polymers, impregnation by melts, depositing of polymer powder etc. All these methods have partial deficiencies that limit their application from the material or technological point of view. To eliminate this problem, the method of surface treatment of fibres with heat resistance above 300 degrees C is used. The principle of this solution lies in the fact that the pre-heated fibre is brought into contact with fusible agent in the solid state, to advantage in the form of powder, while the agent is melted by the heat that is contained in the fibre and forms a thin layer on the fibre surface. The fusible agent is a substance, especially of the polymer character, that washes the fibre, is affine against polymer matrix and has a melting temperature by 20 and 80 degrees lower than the melting temperature of polymer matrix of composite material. According to the invention, the main advantage of the method of surface treatment is its simplicity and versatility. It can be used especially with treatment of glass, aramide, carbon and other fibres for matrices based on polypropylene, polyamide, polycarbonate, polyimide, polyester etc.
