PURPOSE:To shorten recording time by making constant the ratio between the time during which maximum power is applied on a recording head and the time during which the recording head applies power on one pixel and varying the rate of recording operation of each of a plurality of thermal coloring layers thereby varying the energy to be applied thereon. CONSTITUTION:Assuming Pn is the maximum power of a thermal head 32, tn is a ratio of pixel size/operating rate, rn is a ratio of output time/tn, and En is the energy required for coloring each coloring layer of thermal recording material, following relation is satisfied; En= PnXrnXtn. N represents CMY of each coloring layer. Energy is imparted appropriately to the thermal recording material 10 by varying tn. A controller 45 controls the rotational speed of a supporting drum 30 so that a relationship tY<tM<tC is satisfied, where tY is 'weak' time interval, tM is 'intermediate' time interval, and tC is 'strong' time interval. Consequently, energy required for coloring other coloring layer can be obtained within a shorter time than that required for coloring the C pigment layer. |
