Registering material (I) contains carbonaceous powder (II) surface-modified with F2 gas. (II) is produced by exposing carbonaceous powder to a gas contg. F2 for 0.5 mins. to 1 hr. at -80 to 150 deg.C and a F2 partial pressure of 1.3-1013 hPa. (I) pref. also contains a solvent (III) and binder (IV), pref. 3-30 (wt.)% (II), 40-80% (III) and 1-20% (IV). USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is used as ink for writing equipment, pref. ball-point or felt-tipped pens (claimed). It is also useful in liquid toners, printing inks and paints. (II) forms stable dispersions in aq. solvents and gives lines with excellent fastness to light and water. When used in ink, it does not stick to the container or block the tip of the pen.
