Method for reactivation of a platinum group metal catalytic system

Reactivation of deactivated catalysts (I) containing a platinum metal and a metal co-catalyst, for oxidative carbonylation of aromatic hydroxyl compounds, comprises: (a) treating (I) at 100-400 degrees C in a liquid phase containing 1-10000 equivalents of oxidant/equivalent of metal constituents of the catalyst system; (b) separation of excess oxidant; and (c) treating the oxidised residue with 0.1-100 pts.wt. of a 1-12C carboxylate or a 4-12C diketonate per pt .wt. oxidised residue.
